Flood — Eagle, Colorado

2011-06-05 to 2011-06-30 · near Dotsero, Eagle, Colorado

Event narrative

The Colorado River experienced elevated flows due to snow melt runoff from June 5th to the end of the month. Flood advisories or warnings were in effect through most of this time, with a few brief exceptions when the river fell just below bankfull. The main area of concern was from the confluence with the Eagle River near Dotsero to the County line just above Glenwood Canyon. Water quickly rose on the evening of June 6th when flood warnings were issued and remained in place through June 10th. Highway 6 at Dotsero was closed due to the high water levels reaching the bottom of the bridge. The river continued to reach or exceed bankfull conditions through the end of the month, except the period of June 19th through the 24th when cooler weather reduced the heavy runoff. Lowland flooding was reported through the month and some sandbagging of residential areas were required from near Gypsum to Dotsero.

Wider weather episode
