WeatherFlow sensor on Alligator River Bridge observed a 41 knot marine thunderstorm wind gust.
Wider weather episode
Convection developed across the Piedmont of North Carolina during the afternoon hours of July 1st. The storms formed into a line of severe thunderstorms similar to a derecho which caused numerous marine thunderstorm wind gusts over 40 knots and capsized vessels in the Pamlico River near Washington.
