Wider weather episode
Another shortwave aloft pushed through the area during the late morning and early afternoon of June 5th. The wave helped to push a weak cold front through the state as well, which acted as a focusing mechanism for thunderstorm development. Instability increased ahead of the front across central Georgia, and numerous thunderstorms were able to develop during the early afternoon. Several of these thunderstorms became severe, with damaging winds and large hail reported.
