Wider weather episode
Post frontal thunderstorms developed across the Northeast Blue Mountains during the late afternoon hours. Just enough sunshine in the afternoon destabilized the atmosphere to create surface based convective available potential energy of 500 to 1,000 J/KG. This was just enough energy in a marginally sheared environment for a supercell thunderstorm that produced severe hail.
