Wider weather episode

An early fall snowstorm brought an end to the record 90 degree heat wave set a week earlier. Heavy snow fell in and near the Front Range Foothills as upslope conditions developed. In Fort Collins, the heavy wet snow caused tree limbs of still fully leafed trees to crack and break. In addition, the broken limbs downed some power lines which led to scattered electrical outages.Snow accumulations in the foothills ranged from 7 to 15 inches, while amounts along western portions of the Urban Corridor generally range from 3 to 6 inches. Snowfall totals in the foothills included: 15 inches, 7 miles east-northeast of Virginia Dale, 13 inches, 4 miles south of Estes Park, 10 inches at Conifer, 9 inches in Allens Park and 11 miles southwest of Morrison, 8 inches at Crow Hill and 7 inches at Estes Park and Chief Hosa. Along the Urban Corridor, snowfall totals included: 6 inches at Boulder and Fort Collins, 5 inches at Ralston Reservoir, with 4 inches reported at Castle Rock and Morrison.
