Event narrative

Persistent rains associated with a nearly stationary upper level low pressure system produced a prolonged period of very heavy rain across Sullivan county. Extensive flooding was reported in Cochecton, Delaware, and Tusten where a State of Emergency was declared because of numerous road and bridge washouts. One stone bridge at Ten Mile River, constructed in 1895, was destroyed as were other bridges built above the 100 year flood level. A portion of County Route 23 half a mile long was completely washed out. Rainfall reports of 8 to 10 inches were recieved from the area.
