The excessive heat that began on July 28th continued through August 5th. The combination of high temperatures in the 90s and high dew points produced heat indices of over 100 each day through the 5th. A cold frontal passage late in the day on the 5th ended the excessive heat. The hottest day of this spell for most places in August was the second with some temperatures reaching or exceeding 100F.There was one reported heat related death, a 77 year-old woman in Florence (Burlington County). Highest reported temperatures included 102 degrees in Chatham (Morris County), 101 degrees in Pennsauken (Camden County) and Flemington (Hunterdon County), 100 degrees in Trenton (Mercer County), Mount Holly (Burlington County) and Seabrook (Cumberland County), 99 degrees in New Brunswick (Middlesex County) and West Deptford (Gloucester County), 98 degrees in Belvidere (Warren County) and Sussex (Sussex County) and 96 degrees at the Atlantic City International Airport.
