A swath of very large destructive hail fell across all of central Carroll County as a supercell thunderstorm tracked east-northeast across the area. This was actually the second supercell storm to move across this same area. This supercell was long lived and began along the Mississippi River in southwestern Washington County. This storm can be referenced back in other counties as supercell three, but was actually the second supercell to effect Carroll County.The destructive hail storm produced a swath of quarter to golf ball to even baseball sized hail as it tracked across Carroll County. The storm moved into Carroll County near the Greenwood-Leflore County Airport and Highway 82. Here hail to the size of golf balls to baseballs damaged vehicles, buildings and the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS). Damaging winds blew out several hanger doors around the airport. The storm continued to the east-northeast toward Carrollton. Hundreds of homes and other buildings suffered significant roof damage and broken windows. Many more vehicles were damaged as well with dents and broken windshields. The storm continued to produce the very large hail as it moved toward the Duck Hill area and out of Carroll County.
