A strong 966mb low, just southeast of the Kamchatka Peninsula at 3pm Saturday, moved steadily northeast...across the western Aleutians and southcentral Bering Sea, finally weakening to a 988mb center just southwest of Hooper Bay, along the southwest Alaskan coast Monday. Strong westerly winds were observed along the south and southwest quadrants of the storm...finally diminishing below 40 mph Monday morning as the low weakened.Sketchy reports across the Aleutians recorded gusts as high as 69 mph at Adak Sunday morning. At Dutch Harbor, blowing spray and 'water devils' were reported from Sunday morning through midday Monday, when winds finally diminished below 40 mph. Highest reported gusts reached 62 mph from the southwest at Dutch Harbor.Across the Pribilofs, adjusted ASOS wind gusts reached 62 mph from 3am Sunday through 9pm Sunday.Across the Alaska Peninsula, adjusted ASOS winds gusted to 63 mph from the west, as heavy snow squalls moved through the area late Monday morning through Monday evening.Strong southerly winds were also reported on the east side of a frontal low...which moved from 120 miles south of Saint Lawrence Island at 10 am Sunday to near Port Clarence (southwestern corner of the Seward Peninsula) at 4am Monday.Adjusted ASOS wind gusts along the western Bristol Bay zone, reached 69 mph at Cape Newenham and 69 mph at King Salmon Sunday. Winds finally diminished below 40 mph along the Bristol Bay area Monday morning. Blizzard conditions in snow and blowing snow accompanied the strong winds across extreme western Bristol Bay.South winds gusted to 84 mph at Cape Romanzof (in the Kuskokwim Delta zone) and 63 mph at Mekoryuk (on Nunivak Island) Sunday morning. Winds diminished below 40 mph along the Kuskokwim Delta area very late Sunday night. These winds were also accompanied by blizzard conditions in heavy snow and blowing snow across most of the Kuskokwim Delta. The front associated with this intense low also was preceded by brisk southeast winds and also produced locally heavy snows.Winds in advance of the front gusted 40 to 45 mph across the Pribilofs late Saturday, to 63 mph along the Alaska Peninsula (as adjusted for the ASOS at Cold Bay) late Saturday through Sunday afternoon.Prefrontal wind gusts as high as 50 mph were reported across Kodiak Island around noon Sunday (at the Booth Lake site). Winds diminished with the frontal passage. The front moved through the northeast corner of Kodiak Island just before 9pm Sunday.Adjusted ASOS wind gusts reached 58 mph at the Portage Visitor Center late Sunday through Monday morning. Around Prince William Sound, gusts reached 46 mph. In both areas, locally heavy snows were reported. Silvertip DOT site, near the community of Hope, received a reported 25 inches of snow from Monday morning to Tuesday morning. Whittier, at the head of Passage Canal, received a reported 1 to 1 1/2 feet of new snow during an 18 hour period from 6pm Monday to noon Tuesday.
