Highway 52 near Winston was closed due to flooding at the low water crossings.

Wider weather episode

An upper low was over Southern California with increasing southwest flow aloft over the region, including an 80kt jet entering Southern New Mexico. Good moisture was in place over the area with moderate instability and wind shear. A few strong storms developed over Sierra County and produced severe hail and some flash flooding.
