A mean layer trough axis from the surface to 500 mb carved out and persisted across the local area for a few days. A very moist airmass with precipitable water values at or above 2 inches under prevailing SW flow out of the Gulf of Mexico fueled scattered afternoon and early evening thunderstorms.
