Wider weather episode
Widespread showers and thunderstorms moved slowly north over New Mexico as the most significant monsoon burst pattern of the season arrived across the state. The combination of very rich moisture and strong afternoon heating resulted in storms with torrential rainfall over much of central and western New Mexico. The most significant flash flooding occurred around the Glenwood. High water forced mud, rocks, and debris over Catwalk Road. Mineral Creek road was washed out near Alma where 2 inches of rain fell in only 45 minutes. Torrential rainfall around Crownpoint turned roads into a flooded muddy mess. A monster storm in the northeast heights of Albuquerque dumped up to 2.5 inches of rainfall around Glenwood Hills. This resulted in impassable low water crossings in parts of the heights. Many residents around Menaul and Juan Tabo reported landscaping washed into the streets from flood waters.
