Wider weather episode

Strong mid-level winds worked their way to the surface and the surface pressure gradient tightened across central Wyoming, a combination that led to high winds across portions of northwest and central Wyoming. The strongest winds occurred in the wind prone areas of the Absaroka Mountains and the Cody Foothills. A maximum gust to 90 mph was recorded west of Clark in the foothills of the Absaroka Range. A wind sensor along the Chief Joseph Highway had many gusts of hurricane force including a peak gust to 87 mph. Wind gusts of 58 to 75 mph were also measured in portions of Fremont and Natrona counties.
