Event narrative

The combination of 2 to 4 inches of snow and 0.10 to 0.15 inches of ice resulted in difficult to dangerous driving conditions across the county.

Wider weather episode

A sharp cold front and a deep low pressure system brought widespread precipitation to central Kentucky January 12. As temperatures dropped from the 40s and 50s into the 30s and 20s, rain changed over to freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Snow amounts ranged from 1 to 5 inches, which fell on top a glaze to 1/4 inch of ice. Travel was severely impacted with widespread school and business closures.
