2018-04-09 · Northwest Nicholas, West Virginia
Wider weather episode
A mid-level disturbance passed just south of West Virginia on the 9th. Precipitation started as rain, but cold air quickly filtered in changing it over to snow. Road temperatures were warm enough that only minimal snow stuck to roads, but 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulated on grassy surfaces across the lower elevations, with 3 to 6 inches across higher elevations. For example, 1.7 inches of snow accumulated near Alum Creek in Kanawha County. A CoCoRaHS volunteer measured 3.2 inches near Craigsville in Nicholas County. The cooperative observer at Mt. Nebo in Nicholas County received 5 inches of snow. The highest report was on the top of Droop Mountain near the Pocahontas/Greenbrier border where 6 inches was measured.
