Dam operator reported multiple trees blown down along Highway 129 between Cheoah dam and Lake Santeetlah.

Wider weather episode

Scattered thunderstorms developed across the North Carolina mountains and foothills during the afternoon and moved into the western Piedmont by early evening. A few of the storms produced strong to damaging winds that caused tree damage, with one tree falling on a vehicle north of Lenoir, killing one of the occupants.
