Winter Storm — Northern Cayuga, New York

2019-01-19 to 2019-01-20 · Northern Cayuga, New York

Wider weather episode

A system tracked along the New York/Pennsylvania line and spread heavy snow across our region over the weekend. The low pressure track fit perfectly with climatology for widespread heavy snow in our area. The heaviest amounts that model solutions generally had across the western Southern Tier ended up being across the entirety of the Thruway corridor, resulting in over a foot of snow for much of the area. Northeasterly flow off of Lake Ontario resulted in localized maxima along the southwestern shore of the lake, as well. Even with more than a foot of snow, impacts were not as severe as they would otherwise have been because all of the snow fell over a weekend, resulting in lower impacts to transportation. Snow totals included 29.2 inches in Rochester, 13 inches in West Conesus, 14 inches in Sardinia, 17.5 inches in West Seneca, 18.5 inches in Forestville, 18 inches in Little Valley, 15 inches in Lowville, 14 inches in Warsaw, 16.8 inches in Lockport, 12.1 inches in Medina, 16 inches in Bristol Mountain, 12.9 inches in South Watertown, 26.6 inches in Walworth, 20.6 inches in Minetto, 10.2 inches in Alfred, and 15.0 inches in Pavilion.
