Event narrative

The highest measured snowfall totals in Florence County were 7.2 inches 4 miles west of Aurora, and 7.0 inches near Spread Eagle. Glaze from freezing rain was also reported near the Upper Michigan border east-southeast of Florence.

Wider weather episode

A strong low pressure system over the Plains moved across northwest Wisconsin on its way to Quebec. The system brought heavy snow, freezing rain, and gusty winds to central and northern Wisconsin. Thunderstorms and some sleet were also reported in parts of central Wisconsin.

The highest snowfall totals associated with the storm included 12.5 inches near White Lake (Langlade Co.), 12.0 inches in Antigo (Langlade Co.), 11.6 inches in Wausau (Marathon Co.), 11.5 inches near Mountain (Oconto Co.), 11.4 inches near Weston (Marathon Co.), 11.0 inches in Athelstane (Marinette Co.) and near Amberg (Marinette Co.), 10.5 inches near Split Rock (Shawano Co.), and 10.0 inches in Wausaukee (Marinette Co.) and near Sister Bay (Door Co.).

New snowfall records for April 11th were set at Antigo, Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids (Wood Co.), Rhinelander (Oneida Co.), and Merrill (Lincoln Co.). New precipitation records for April 11th were set at Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point (Portage Co.), Wausau, Merrill, and Rhinelander (Oneida Co.).
