A RAWS site 28 miles east-northeast of Orogrande recorded a peak gust of 59 mph.

Wider weather episode

An upper low was moving across Colorado with an associated cold front extending south across the Borderland. A 150 knot upper level jet was also approaching southern New Mexico which aided in bringing down wind gusts over 100 mph.
