A cold front moved through the region during the early morning hours of March 31st, which brought rain. Behind this front, a cold moist northwest flow of air crossed the relatively warm waters of Lake Ontario. This led to heavy lake effect snow in portions of Central New York late in the afternoon March 31st to the early to mid morning hours of April 1st.
