Event narrative
A long duration of sustained tropical storm winds impacted the coastal waters, with frequent gusts to hurricane force, especially within squalls. These winds lasted from the early morning on September 3 through the late evening on September 4. Seas reached in excess of 25 feet according to NOAA Buoy 41009, located 20 miles east of Port Canaveral and Buoy 41010, located approximately 140 miles northeast of Port Canaveral.

Hurricane Dorian moved slowly northwest away from Grand Bahama Island late in the evening September 2. Dorian tracked parallel to the eastern Florida coast over the next 36-48 hours at Category 2-3 strength, making its closest approach when the center was approximately 80 miles east of the tip of Cape Canaveral. Dorian produced a long duration of sustained tropical storm force winds with gusts to hurricane force over the Atlantic coastal waters. These winds drove seas of at least 20 to 24 feet.
