Coastal Flood — Maryland Beaches, Maryland
2019-10-10 to 2019-10-12 · Maryland Beaches, Maryland
Event narrative
Persistent north or northeast winds, along with high seas, produced tidal anomalies between 2.0 and 3.0 feet over the Maryland Coastal Waters. This caused minor coastal flooding over portions of the Maryland Beaches (Ocean City). Ocean City Inlet reached 4.89 feet MLLW on October 11th. Multiple roadways were covered in water due to tidal flooding in southern Ocean City.
Wider weather episode
The combination of low pressure sitting off the New Jersey coast and strong high pressure over southeast Canada resulted in persistent north or northeast winds over the Maryland Coastal Waters. These persistent north or northeast winds, along with high seas, allowed water levels to rise along the Maryland coast. Widespread minor tidal flooding was observed by late on the 10th through the 12th, as tidal anomalies continued to increase.
