A strong upper level system lifted northeast across South-Central Kansas throughout the day and evening and combined with a surface front in southeast Kansas to produce widespread moderate across most of Central Kansas. The 6-inch accumulation was an isolated report from Russell.
Prior to the onset of snow, freezing drizzle occurred across much of Central and South-Central Kansas that produced slick roads and highways that would eventually lead to numerous accidents.
