Event narrative

As the winter storm moved through the area, conditions along Interstate 80 on the afternoon of the 20th quickly deteriorated with icy conditions and limited visibility from blowing snow. A single vehicle rollover crash occurred at 4 PM on Wednesday where a female passenger who was not wearing her seatbelt succombed to her injuries at the scene after collapsing upon exiting the crashed vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was driving too fast for the conditions as noted in the Wyoming Highway Patrol report and lost control as the vehicle exited the interstate and sliding before rolling once. A CoCoRaHS observer near Elk Mountain measured over 5.5 inches of snowfall with higher totals above warning criteria closer to the foothills.
