2020-03-06 to 2020-03-07 · Southeast Nicholas, West Virginia
Wider weather episode
A strong upper level trough pivoted through the middle and upper Ohio River Valley on the 6th. Northerly low level winds provided a stream of moisture off of the Great Lakes. The combination of these led to period of heavy snow on the western ridges of the northern West Virginia mountains. Snow amounts were highly elevation dependent. The cooperative observer at Kumbrabow State Forest near Monterville in Southeast Randolph County received a foot of snow and the observer at Snowshoe measured 11 inches. A trained spotter near Nettie in Nicholas County reported 7 inches.
