A broken line of strong thunderstorms developed along a weak cold front across southwest, northeast toward the Twin Cities, and into west central Wisconsin Sunday afternoon, June 21st. These storms were mainly strong with numerous reports of pea to occasionally dime size hail stones. A couple of storms briefly produced up to half dollar size hail during the afternoon. Gusty winds also accompany the storms, but wind gusts were between 30 and 40 mph. A couple of wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph occurred near New Prague and Madelia in southern Minnesota. Other thunderstorms produced very heavy rainfall with amounts of 1 to 2 inches in several locations in southern Minnesota.
