Drought — Coastal Kenedy County, Texas

2020-04-07 to 2020-04-30 · Coastal Kenedy County, Texas

Event narrative

Rainfall from a fast-moving supercell thunderstorm in the southern half of coastal Kenedy County dropped 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall early on April 4th, improving drought from Severe (D2) to Moderate (D1) while leaving the northern half of the coastline unchanged. These conditions would remain through the remainder of April.

Wider weather episode

A strong, long-lasting supercell that developed across the southern portion of Jim Hogg county during the predawn hours of April 4th along with scattered showers brought some relief to drought stricken areas across the upper Rio Grande Valley and the northern ranchlands. Pasture and rangeland conditions were in poor condition in most areas but started to improve in areas with recent rainfall.
