Event narrative

An upper level disturbance allowed strong thunderstorms to develop across the lower Texas coastal waters on May 16th. Some of these thunderstorms produced strong winds, and buoy PCGT2 recorded a gust of 38 knots.

Wider weather episode

As an upper level disturbance moved across Deep South Texas, strong thunderstorms developed across South Texas on May 15th and continued in a south-southeastward direction, moving across the lower Texas waters on May 16th. This line of storms brought strong marine gusts that were recorded at a couple of the buoys along the coastal waters.
