Lorain Harbor C-MAN station (LORO1) recorded a 52 mph peak wind gust from a thunderstorm.
Wider weather episode
A surface cold front drifted eastward from southeastern Lower Michigan and northeastern Indiana to far-western Lake Erie and western Ohio between the early morning and midday on August 16th. Multiple lines of thunderstorms moved eastward along and ahead of the front. These storms affected the western and central basins of Lake Erie during the morning through midday and produced a couple of gale-force wind gusts along the lakeshore. The pre-storm environment exhibited weak to moderate instability and DCAPE, respectively, and moderate vertical wind shear.
