Wider weather episode
An upper ridge positioned to the west of Alabama produced northwest flow aloft across Alabama. Deep tropical moisture was present over the state, and several upstream convective systems pushed outflow boundaries into Central Alabama between August 10th and August 12th. Diurnal heating produced surface based CAPE values near 4000 J/kg each afternoon, which aided in the development of severe storms.
