Winter Weather — Northern Foot Hills, South Dakota
2020-09-07 to 2020-09-08 · Northern Foot Hills, South Dakota
Wider weather episode
A strong storm system moved across the region, bringing rain to the area initially. Unusually cold air moved in with the system and allowed rain to turn over to snow during the nighttime hours across elevations mostly above 3500 feet, and especially above 4500 feet. The heaviest snow was at or above 5000 feet elevation, where five to ten inches fell in many areas, with higher amounts at the highest elevations of the Black Hills. The heavy, wet snow downed trees, branches, and power lines, causing scattered power outages.
