A mesonet station three miles WNW of Vermilion recorded a peak wind gust of 42 knots from a thunderstorm.

As a surface low moved northeastward from northern Lake Huron to southwestern Quebec between early afternoon and early evening on October 23rd, the trailing cold front swept eastward and reached central Lake Erie and north-central Ohio by early evening. A squall line developed along the cold front, while discrete thunderstorms occurred ahead of the squall line. These storms produced strong to severe wind gusts along portions of the Lake Erie shore in northwest, north-central, and northeast Ohio. The pre-storm environment exhibited moderate vertical wind shear and DCAPE, respectively, and weak to moderate instability.
