2020-11-08 to 2020-11-09 · Sebastian Inlet To Jupiter Inlet 20-60nm, Atlantic South

Event narrative

A moderate duration of sustained tropical storm winds impacted the coastal waters, with the strongest tropical storm conditions experienced in the passing rain bands of Tropical Storm Eta. These winds lasted from early morning on November 8 to late morning on November 9. Seas reached up to at least 14 feet, according to the Scripps buoy 41114 offshore of Fort Pierce.

Wider weather episode

Tropical Storm Eta moved across Cuba and into the Florida Straits on the morning of November 8. Eta tracked northwest through the day and then made landfall along the Central Florida Keys early during the morning of November 9. Eta produced a short to moderate duration of sustained tropical storm force winds. These winds drove seas of at least 14 to 19 feet. After the sustained tropical storm winds lessened, squalls with convective gusts to tropical storm force occurred over the coastal waters and spread onshore the beaches near Cape Canaveral and along southern Hutchinson Island.
