Event narrative
The U.S. Drought Monitor declared the northern portion of Oneida county in Severe drought conditions during the month of October due to lack of rainfall and abnormally low surface and groundwater states. Reports of crop and livestock stress were received from county agencies and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Wider weather episode
Moisture conditions, groundwater and surface water flows were considerably below normal for the prior three months over portions of Oneida County. Rainfall deficits were on the order of 2.5 to 3.5 inches below the seasonal normal. The stresses of drought were severe on crops and livestock in the region.
