Drought — Northern Oneida, New York

2020-11-01 to 2020-11-17 · Northern Oneida, New York

Event narrative

The U.S. Drought Monitor continued Severe drought conditions over a portion of Oneida county during the month of November, ending on November 17th. A lengthy period with significant precipitation deficits during the past 3 to 6 months was gradually alleviated by rainfall and an improvement in soil moisture and surface water conditions. Harvesting of the final late season crops and loss over natural foliage cover also lessened evapotranspiration helping the rebound toward normal wetness conditions.

Wider weather episode

Moisture conditions, groundwater and surface water flows were considerably below normal for the prior three months over portions of northern Oneida County. Rainfall deficits were on the order of 2.5 to 3.5 inches below the seasonal normal. The stresses of drought were severe on crops and livestock in the region.
