At the same time, high pressure was located to the north. Therefore, significant wintry precipitation fell across the area in the form of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Snowfall amounts averaged around 6 to 12 inches near and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains with 2 to 4 inches west of Interstate 95. Freezing rain also occurred with around a quarter to one-half inch of ice near the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern and central Virginia and ice amounts around a tenth of an inch just west of Interstate 95.
