Snow that began during the evening of the 30th continued to fall into the first as strong northwest winds pushing moisture up the western slopes of the Appalachians resulted in development of numerous to widespread snow showers near the Tennessee border. Heavy accumulations were reported in the higher elevations of the Tennessee border counties, where totals were generally in the 3 to 5 inch range above 3500 feet, with locally higher amounts of up to 8 inches along the immediate Tennessee border. Accumulations in the valleys ranged from a dusting to around 3 inches.
