Heavy Snow — Graham, North Carolina

2020-12-24 to 2020-12-26 · Graham, North Carolina

Wider weather episode

Precipitation associated with an area of low pressure and attendant cold front moved across western North Carolina throughout Christmas Eve into Christmas morning. Snow levels dropped quickly across the mountains during the evening hours, resulting in rain changing to snow. While much of the accumulating snow ended by around sunrise on Christmas Day, continuing snow showers produced additional light snowfall amounts throughout the day, especially in the higher elevations along state line. Snowfall totals were generally in the 3 to 6 inch range, although amounts of around a foot were reported in the higher elevations, and even in portions of the lower French Broad Valley. This was the first Christmas heavy snow event to impact western North Carolina since 2010.
