A few trees were blown down.
Wider weather episode
A strong cold front approached the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians during the late afternoon and evening hours of Monday, June 21. A warm and humid air mass ahead of the front (following the remnants of Tropical Storm Claudette) led to the development of numerous clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms that tracked from west to east. In southwest Virginia, the main impact from these storms was damaging winds.
