Wider weather episode
Northern Ohio was in the warm sector during the afternoon through early evening of the 29th as a surface low moved from the Upper Mississippi Valley toward the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Simultaneously, the Bermuda-Azores subtropical high extended a weak ridge over the Upper Ohio Valley and eastern Great Lakes region. Numerous thunderstorms developed along the Lake Erie lake breeze front and via daytime heating farther inland, amidst a warm and very humid boundary layer. These storms occurred in an environment with moderate to strong instability and DCAPE, and weak to moderate vertical wind shear.
