Event narrative
The zone started out with Exceptional(D4) drought across the north and Extreme(D3) over the south but improved to Extreme(D3) over the west and Severe(D2) drought east by the end of the month. The Mountain Park Cooperative Observer reported 3.64 inches of precipitation which was 2.47 inches above normal.
Wider weather episode
Areas of far southwest New Mexico continued to remain dry in June, but the Sacramento Mountains and parts of south-central New Mexico did receive above normal precipitation. There was some improvement to drought conditions in these areas with above normal rainfall.
