Event narrative
The entire zone started out June in Exceptional(D4) drought but improved to Extreme(D3) drought south to Severe(D2) drought by the end of the month. The Cloudcroft Cooperative Observer reported 3.40 inches of precipitation which was 1.18 inches above normal.
Wider weather episode
Areas of far southwest New Mexico continued to remain dry in June, but the Sacramento Mountains and parts of south-central New Mexico did receive above normal precipitation. There was some improvement to drought conditions in these areas with above normal rainfall.
