Event narrative

The zone started June in Exceptional(D4) drought and improved by the end of the month to Extreme(D3) drought south and Severe(D2) drought over the northern half of the zone.

Wider weather episode

Areas of far southwest New Mexico continued to remain dry in June, but the Sacramento Mountains and parts of south-central New Mexico did receive above normal precipitation. There was some improvement to drought conditions in these areas with above normal rainfall.
