Event narrative

A microburst blew down numerous trees in and around Camp Powhatan. Some of the trees fell on tents within the camp.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front combined with shortwave energy pushed through the region during the afternoon of July 26th, 2021. Widespread showers and storms develop as a result of an unstable airmass supported by CAPE values of 2,000-4000 j/kg. This contributed to the storms producing damaging winds through much of the afternoon and into the overnight hours.
