The western half of the zone remained in Severe(D2) drought while the east remained in Moderate(D1) drought. The Truth or Consequences Airport had no precipitation in October which was 0.73 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Heavy rain over the last few days of September helped to bring some improvement to drought conditions over Southwest New Mexico in October. No areas in Southwest New Mexico were in Extreme(D3) drought by mid October.
