Event narrative

Nearby Ogallala AWOS recorded a peak wind gust of 67 mph at 1255 pm MST. Northwest winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts to over 60 mph were common across Arthur County during the early to mid afternoon hours.

Wider weather episode

An intense storm system moved through western and north central Nebraska on December 15th. This storms brought rain and a few thunderstorms, as well as some light snow accumulations. High winds were most notable, with northwest winds gusting to 60 to 70 mph for many locations during the afternoon hours. The Imperial ASOS recorded the highest wind gust at 74 mph.
