Event narrative
Kapingamarangi received only 1.46 inches of rain this month which is 23 percent of average. The persistent low rainfall has cause the island to enter Severe Drought (D2).
Residents have been conserving water for several weeks. These water conservation efforts have maintained public water tank levels near full capacity. Private water tanks are around 20% capacity. Crops and vegetation have started to brown.
