Event narrative

On Friday 11/5 at around 9:40 AM, the Flagler County emergency management relayed the first wind gust to meet advisory criteria at the FSWN Flagler County EM Marineland WeatherSTEM measuring a wind gust of 41 mph. This Marineland WeatherSTEM steadily increased in wind measuring a sustained wind of 40 mph at 11:30 AM and a gust of 50 mph by 1 PM. At 2:36 PM, the emergency management reported that TV cable lines had been knocked down on Larmie Dr. in Palm Coast. Then, at 3:30 PM, a spotter measured a wind gust of 46 mph in Flagler Beach. At 4 PM, the Palm Coast Fire Rescue reported power lines were down across two vehicles in their driveway along South Daytona Ave. in Flagler Beach. At 4:40 PM, the Marineland WeatherSTEM measured a gust of 56 mph which was the peak gust on 11/5. At 5:35 PM, emergency management relayed a report from Flagler County Sheriff's Office of a large tree down across both lanes of Old Kings road near the intersection of Old Kings road and Utility drive. At 5:45 PM, Palm Coast Fire Rescue reported power lines were blown down at the intersection of Palm Harbor Pkwy and Cris Ln and wires were also down on the nearby sidewalk. At 6:50 PM, a trained spotter reported a tree was blown down and was partially across Regent Lane in Palm Coast. At 7:06 PM, the public reported the wind was still gusting to 45 mph in Flagler Beach. At 9 PM, emergency management reported a wind gust of 41 mph was measured at the Hammock Dunes Bridge. On Saturday 11/6 at 7:50 AM, emergency management reported FSWN Flagler County EM Marineland WeatherSTEM site measured a wind gust of 63 mph which was the peak wind gust for the event in Flagler County.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure developed across the southern Gulf of Mexico on Friday Nov. 5th and tracked eastward across north-central Florida Friday night, deepening offshore of the local NE FL Atlantic coast on Saturday Nov. 6th as strong surface high pressure wedged southward north of the region. This created a rare, true Nor'Easter event for the local area which including coastal and tidal flooding with inundation of 2-3 ft at high tides and damaging wind gusts, A High Wind Warning and Storm Warning for coastal and marine areas was issued. Localized heavy rainfall occurred for portions of coastal NE Florida. Moderate to major coastal erosion occurred. Coastal wind gusts of 40-50 mph started Friday morning then increased to 45-55 mph into Friday evening. The strongest winds of the event occurred for coastal NE FL Saturday morning, Nov. 6th, with sustained speeds 45-55 mph and gusts 60-70 mph. A peak wind gust of 68 mph was measured at the St. Augustine C-MAN station Saturday morning 11/6 around 06:30 am (peak sustained wind was 55 mph from the north) with a gust of 70 mph at 5:37 am at the Huguenot Park mesonet site. Moderate tidal flooding occurred along the local Atlantic coast with inundation of 2-3 feet.
