The status of the drought remained unchanged through the month of January as extreme (D3) drought conditions persisted across the entirety of the zone.

Wider weather episode

A few systems moved through eastern Utah in January. As a result, drought conditions slightly improved, mainly in the higher elevations of northeast and east-central Utah. Elsewhere, continued dry conditions resulted in no improvement in the drought.
