Extreme(D3) drought continued over the far western part of the zone while the remainder of the zone remained in Severe(D2) drought. The Truth or Consequences Airport reported 0.11 inches below normal which was 0.49 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

December had below normal precipitation again across southwestern New Mexico which kept the area in Severe(D2) to Extreme(D3) drought conditions.
